I can hear Will Smith singing “Summertime“ as I type this. It’s HOT in Charleston. Temperature wise and fishing wise. The summer months in Charleston Harbor offer a ton of options for the outdoor enthusiast. The bull reds are here spawning. The summer trout and flounder are everywhere. We have the largest bonnethead sharks in the world. And the tarpon are starting to show up in decent numbers. Reds on the flats and in the grass are also a great time.
The past week has been exceptionally good fishing with the smaller tide swings. Spanish mackerels have been making their usual appearance out by the jetties and we’ve even been catching some further inshore. The giant black drum are around as well with some reaching into the 40-50 pound range. May through October are definitely the best months to fish in Charleston if you want to tangle with the biggest redfish and black drums you’ll ever catch! Here are some shots from the past few days. Currently I’m booking into August and September so call me asap to get in on the action! I also have a few days open still in October, November, and December, which are my favorite months for keeping fish in Charleston. Lots of big trout around then so come get in on the action!

We’re in full summer swing around Charleston and Mt Pleasant right now. Menhaden are here, fingers crossed mullet are swarming, and on occasion the deep hole shrimping is great. The largest inshore flounders of the year are here right now through August. The lower tides will push them towards the middle of the creeks and they’ll be closer to the edges on the higher tides.
We’re catching good numbers of keeper speckled trout and flounders right now in between chasing big bull reds in the 20-50 pound range. It is summertime, so there’s always plenty of sharks out there to either target, or just weed through. No matter what you’re looking for, you can catch it right now! Capt. Jamie Hough 843-364-1759 |
